Understanding the ingredients in CHUEN skin care
Learn to distinguish botanical names, fragrance descriptions and formula information, with CHUEN Soothing Cream as an example.

Botanical names on packaging can evoke the scent and feel of a product. Choosing skin care, however, calls for more than looking at a flower or a highlighted word on a box. Here we read the information step by step, using CHUEN Soothing Cream as an example.
The front tells a story; the label gives details
The front of a pack often highlights the product name, selected ingredients and intended experience. The ingredient list, directions and warnings provide further information for your decision. Read them together.
The US FDA explains that cosmetic ingredients are identified using common or accepted names. These may differ from the botanical names we use in everyday conversation. This is a guide to reading names, not an endorsement of CHUEN or a statement about compliance with Thai requirements.
Ingredients listed for Soothing Cream
The brand’s product document lists organic aloe vera, organic sunflower oil and ingredients from lavender and rosemary. Cucumber extract also appears on the supplied label image. The following is an introduction to selected names, not a complete formula.
- Organic Aloe Vera: aloe vera; check the exact form and full name on the actual label.
- Organic Sunflower Oil: a botanical oil, rather than whole sunflower flowers in the cream.
- Rosemary: extracts and essential oils are different forms; read the complete name.
- Lavender: the brand information refers to essential oil. People sensitive to scent should check the label carefully.
- Cucumber Extract: shown on the label image supplied by the brand; compare it with your own pack.
What does “dok peeb scent” tell you?
CHUEN describes Soothing Cream as having a delicate dok peeb scent. Scent is part of the experience, but the description does not specify ingredient percentages or establish whether a particular quantity of flower extract is present.
To understand which ingredients create the fragrance, read the label or ask the brand. Botanical images in this article are illustrations; they do not show ingredient quantities.
An extract, an oil and a finished formula are different
The same plant can appear in several forms. These should not be treated as interchangeable. Information about an individual ingredient is also not the same as test results for the finished cream.
The documents used here do not provide every ingredient concentration or finished-formula efficacy results. We therefore do not assign percentages, rank potency or use ingredient names to claim treatment of a condition.
Reading “organic” in context
The brand uses “organic” for selected ingredients. That does not, on its own, establish that every ingredient or the finished product has the same certification. Ask the brand for the standard, certifying organisation and scope if you need to verify a certification.
A natural positioning should not replace checking ingredients you have previously reacted to.
A practical label checklist
- Check the exact product: the soap, jar and tube have different formulas.
- Read whether it is rinse-off or leave-on, and where it should be applied.
- Check ingredients that have caused problems for you, especially when buying again or changing formulas.
- Read warnings and expiry information, and inspect the packaging.
- If online information differs from your pack, contact the brand with a photograph of the actual label.
Frequently asked questions
Do all three CHUEN products have the same ingredients?
No such assumption should be made. This article uses Soothing Cream as an example. Read the separate label for each product.
Does lavender mean it treats insomnia?
No. A scent or a feeling during use is not evidence of treatment. We do not use an ingredient name to claim a medical benefit.
Where can I get the complete list?
Read your packaging or send a label photograph to CHUEN’s official team for help checking the information.
